Accumath is a full math engine for your own computer.

What Accumath is

Accumath is a computer algebra system with an integrated notebook (accu_book). You install it on your machine. You work offline. You keep your files.

It is written in pure Rust. Numeric work runs on SoftFloat — software floating point — so the same equation with the same inputs produces the same bit-identical results on every computer. That is not “close enough.” That is the same answer.

It is air-gapped by design: no network call to stay licensed, no cloud license server, no black-box server heuristics guessing at your math.

One lifetime license belongs to one person. All current and future updates and upgrades are free for life with that license. You may move it to a new machine, but it is good for only one machine at a time.

What we are trying to achieve

Version 1 is air-gap completeness: everything on the ship list that can run offline, finished and gold-checked before we call it shipped. Not a thin demo. Not “buy now, wait for the real product.”

We also ship a large equation library with the product — about half a million unique parsed equations, already typed for search and use.

Why Accumath instead of the usual options

• Reproducible numbers — SoftFloat bit-identical results across machines
• True offline use — no license server and no required network
• Not a wrapper stack — not a thin Rust shell over C or Python foreign math runtimes
• Honest failure — when something cannot be done, Accumath says so instead of guessing
• Simple ownership — one door, lifetime, the license belongs to the person

Future vision

After version 1 ships, the work does not stop. The plan is:

• Keep expanding Accumath — more capabilities on the same SoftFloat, air-gapped engine
• Keep maintaining Accumath — fixes, benches, and the public build story
• Ship the notebook as its own crate (accu_book) — headless core first (document, state, dependency graph, jobs), desktop UI later with the rest of egui. The UI should feel very similar to Jupyter (menus and cell workflows) so habits transfer; under the hood it fixes the usual Jupyter pain: hidden kernel state, out-of-order cell chaos, fragile network kernels, and answers that are not bit-identical across machines
• Open-source the notebook at notebook 1.0.0 — when that crate reaches 1.0.0, it goes to the community under an open license. The Accumath engine stays proprietary and 100% pure Rust (no foreign language bindings in the engine)
• Language wrappers on the open notebook only — thin APIs so people can drive accu_book from Rust, Python, C, and similar hosts and replace Jupyter without ZMQ/network kernels. Wrappers are follow-ons on the OSS notebook surface, never inside Accumath
• Build AccuMathLab — the next product after Accumath, then keep expanding it

Your license covers this. If you already hold an Accumath license — early supporter or later — you get Accumath updates and AccuMathLab when it ships, under the same lifetime license you already bought. The open-source notebook is free for everyone when it hits 1.0.0; your paid license still covers the Accumath engine and later proprietary pieces.
